Week 7

Part One: Team Project Reflection For our Final Research Video Project, my team's collaboration centered on Google Slides for project creation, using it to storyboard, organize content, and create the final visual product. We communicated primarily through Slack for real-time discussion and used email for formal requests and sharing final deliverables . While using these tools kept us aligned, the process usually hits bumps with scope creep and ensuring workload balance . Next time, I would implement two changes: Earlier, Mandatory Integration Checkpoints: Instead of waiting until the final week, we'd schedule a "Content Freeze" and a "Draft Review" far in advance. This forces us to integrate components earlier and catch misalignment between the script and visuals. Formalizing the Review Loop: We would dedicate synchronous time specifically for high-level feedback - everyone must review the document before the meeting, saving the meeting time for stra...

Part 1: Help Your Teammates Develop Capstone Ideas This week, our team shared and discussed potential capstone project ideas in our team chat. Here’s a summary of the conversation: Josh G suggested a public key encryption system using LinkedIn/GitHub profiles and a digital twin for a parking lot using a vision model. He also expressed interest in Chris’s AI school work organizer. AJMartinez shared ideas including a video game project, a secure database system, and a skateboarding app for sharing street spots. The street spot idea stood out as practical and engaging. Christopher Buenrostro proposed a live notebook that digitizes handwritten notes, an AI school work organizer integrated with Canvas, and a collaborative whiteboard for studying and coding sessions. Murtaza Badri suggested a waste classification bot and a smart trail recommender for hikers. Rasna (me) proposed a mental health check-in/journaling app using sentiment analysis and a group study scheduler t...

Week 5

Part One: Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals This week, I visited two of my classmates’ blogs where they discussed their educational and career goals. I provided feedback and encouragement as a supportive peer coach. 1. Josh’s Blog – Week 4/100 https://joshcsumb.blogspot.com/2025/09/week-4100.html Josh plans to complete his BS in Computer Science and later pursue an MBA to move into organizational leadership. I admired how clear and well-structured his goals are. His plan to track accomplishments and maintain work-life balance shows self-awareness and maturity. I encouraged him to take on leadership opportunities during his degree and to research MBA programs that focus on technology management. 2. Anthony’s Blog – Week Força https://anthmartin.blogspot.com/2025/09/week-forca.html Anthony’s short-term goal is to complete his BS in Computer Science and his long-term goal is to pursue an MS at CSU Chico. He also aims for a remote role in tech. I liked his honesty about no...

Week 4 - Industry Expert Interview

Industry Expert Interview – Exploring Career Paths and Industry Trends Introduction For my Industry Expert Interview, I had the opportunity to speak with Amrita Kohli , a seasoned technology leader and software engineering manager based in the Bay Area. Amrita currently works at a leading global technology company, where she oversees teams building scalable cloud-based systems and AI-driven applications. I selected her because of her extensive experience leading diverse engineering teams and her background in both software development and product innovation. Additionally, she has been a strong advocate for women in technology and mentorship programs, which aligns with my own interests in creating inclusive, forward-thinking tech spaces. I wanted to learn not only about her technical expertise but also about the leadership mindset and adaptability required to thrive in a rapidly evolving field. Summary of Key Insights Amrita began by describing her career path , which started with a deg...

Week 4

Part One: Educational Goals My primary educational goal in the Computer Science program is to build a strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering so that I am prepared for both academic and professional challenges. I want to graduate with not only technical knowledge, but also the ability to think critically about problems and design efficient solutions. A more personal goal is to become confident enough in my coding skills to take on projects independently, from planning through deployment. I can envision myself walking across the graduation stage, knowing I have built up the skills, habits, and resilience that will carry me into the next stage of my life. Part Two: Career Goals My career goal is to secure a position as a software engineer with a focus on full-stack development. I want to contribute to projects that have a real impact on people’s lives, whether in technology, healthcare, or education. Long term, I would like to grow into a lead ...

Week 3

Part 1 – Study Tips Reflection This week, I focused on improving my time management skills , which I identified as needing improvement in my last journal. I learned that breaking tasks into smaller, manageable segments and setting specific goals for each study session can significantly improve focus and efficiency. I plan to implement a daily schedule with short study intervals and regular breaks to enhance productivity. Part 2 – Weekly Readings and Ethics The readings emphasized the importance of ethical behavior in computer science , including honesty in assignments, responsible use of technology, and respecting others’ work. I learned that ethical lapses, even small ones like copying code without acknowledgment, can have serious consequences on trust and professional reputation. Incorporating ethical practices helps maintain a positive learning environment and prepares us for professional integrity in our careers. Part 3 – Reflection on Reading Assignment From the readi...
