Week 5

Part One: Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals

This week, I visited two of my classmates’ blogs where they discussed their educational and career goals. I provided feedback and encouragement as a supportive peer coach.

1. Josh’s Blog – Week 4/100

Josh plans to complete his BS in Computer Science and later pursue an MBA to move into organizational leadership. I admired how clear and well-structured his goals are. His plan to track accomplishments and maintain work-life balance shows self-awareness and maturity. I encouraged him to take on leadership opportunities during his degree and to research MBA programs that focus on technology management.

2. Anthony’s Blog – Week Força

Anthony’s short-term goal is to complete his BS in Computer Science and his long-term goal is to pursue an MS at CSU Chico. He also aims for a remote role in tech. I liked his honesty about not yet knowing which field to specialize in and how he’s assessing his progress using ETS practice exams. I suggested exploring small projects or internships in various areas like AI, web development, and cybersecurity to discover his interests and strengthen his portfolio.

Part Two: Possible Capstone Ideas

After reviewing several Capstone presentation samples and reviewing group project topics, I brainstormed three possible projects that I might consider for my own Capstone. These ideas were inspired by current trends in AI, cybersecurity, and sustainability:

  1. AI-Powered Tutor for Students
Inspired by the “Can AI Replace Tutors?” project, this idea focuses on developing an intelligent tutoring system that uses NLP (Natural Language Processing) to answer student questions, personalize learning plans, and offer interactive feedback. The goal is to support, not replace, human educators.

  2. Green AI: Optimizing Energy Efficiency in Machine Learning
Based on the “Green AI & Energy-efficient ML” topic, this project would measure and reduce the environmental impact of training and deploying AI models. It would involve model compression, optimization techniques, and sustainability-focused coding practices.

  3. Edge AI for Smart Healthcare Devices
Influenced by the “Edge/On-Device AI” project, this concept focuses on developing AI models that run locally on small healthcare devices to provide instant feedback without relying on cloud servers—improving privacy and reducing latency.

Part Three: Weekly Reflection

This week’s activities emphasized collaboration, reflection, and exploring emerging technologies. By comparing my goals with my classmates’, I learned how different motivations—like leadership, remote work, or technical mastery—can shape educational paths in unique ways.

Reviewing Capstone ideas also gave me insight into how wide the field of computer science is—from AI ethics to sustainable computing. I’m particularly drawn to AI projects that balance innovation with social impact.

I’m beginning to plan for an internship in Summer 2026, ideally in software engineering or AI research. I believe hands-on experience in a professional environment will help me connect my academic learning with real-world challenges and guide my choice of a Capstone project.
