Week 3
Part 1 – Study Tips Reflection
This week, I focused on improving my time management skills, which I identified as needing improvement in my last journal. I learned that breaking tasks into smaller, manageable segments and setting specific goals for each study session can significantly improve focus and efficiency. I plan to implement a daily schedule with short study intervals and regular breaks to enhance productivity.
Part 2 – Weekly Readings and Ethics
The readings emphasized the importance of ethical behavior in computer science, including honesty in assignments, responsible use of technology, and respecting others’ work. I learned that ethical lapses, even small ones like copying code without acknowledgment, can have serious consequences on trust and professional reputation. Incorporating ethical practices helps maintain a positive learning environment and prepares us for professional integrity in our careers.
Part 3 – Reflection on Reading Assignment
From the reading “What a Computer Science Major Needs to Know”, I reflected on the broad knowledge required in computer science, including programming, algorithms, data structures, and ethical considerations. I realized that success in the field requires not only technical skills but also soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Understanding these requirements helps me identify areas to strengthen during my studies.
Part 4 – Integrity Reflection
After reading the Code of Integrity, I understand that integrity is essential for personal growth and fairness in the program. Maintaining honesty ensures that grades reflect true effort and knowledge. It also builds trust among students and faculty, fostering a collaborative learning environment. For me personally, integrity is a commitment to doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, which will carry over into my professional life.
